Built for Ugandan & Kenyan food

Photograph your plate. Know what your diet is missing.

Wholeful recognises the dishes you actually eat — matooke, posho, dodo, a rolex — and at the end of the month tells you, in plain words, which nutrients you're low on and which foods at your market fix it. No weighing. No counting.

You're on the list. We'll message you on WhatsApp the day Wholeful opens in your city.

Why we built it

Calorie apps don't know matooke.

They make you weigh, search and count — and still call a rolex a burrito. Wholeful starts from the food on your table, and from the question that actually matters: are you getting enough of what your body needs?

1

Local dishes, named right

A dictionary of Kampala dishes — posho and beans, katogo, luwombo, mukene, a rolex — each mapped to the Kenya Food Composition Tables, the region's reference data.

2

No weighing, no counting

Snap it or say it. Confirm the dishes and the portion in one tap. That's the whole chore.

3

Answers, not numbers

A monthly report in plain words: what looks low, what looks fine, and the foods at your market that fix it. Wellness guidance — not diagnosis.

How it works

Three taps a meal. One honest report a month.

Wholeful app: typing 'posho and beans, some dodo' into the What did you eat sheet
01

Snap it — or just say it

Photograph your plate, or type what you ate the way you'd say it. On WhatsApp or in the app. Breakfast at a stall counts.

Wholeful app: Confirm screen listing Beans (stewed), Dodo and Posho with small, medium and large portion sizes
02

Confirm in one tap

Wholeful names the dishes and guesses the portion. Tap a size to adjust, add what it missed, done. Every correction teaches it your food.

Wholeful app: Today screen with nutrient tiles showing percentages of daily targets
03

See where today lands

Each day shows how far you are on the nutrients that matter. At month's end you get the report — only when enough meals were logged to be honest.

What it looks at

Twelve nutrients. The ones that actually go missing here.

Targets come from WHO/FAO recommended intakes for your age, sex and life stage. Three are honest estimates — the regional food tables don't measure them well, and we say so rather than pretend.

Iron

Tiredness, headaches, pale gums. Plant iron needs vitamin C alongside — we score that.

Most common gap
Vitamin A

Night vision, immunity. Dodo, pumpkin, liver, orange sweet potato.

Zinc

Healing, taste, immunity. Meat, mukene, beans, g-nuts.

Calcium

Bones, muscles. Milk, mukene with bones, greens.

Folate

Blood, pregnancy. Beans, greens, liver.

Vitamin B12

Nerves, blood. Only from animal foods — eggs, fish, milk, meat.

Vitamin C

Unlocks plant iron. Tomatoes, oranges, greens — fresh, not boiled to death.

Protein

Per kilo of body weight if you tell us yours. Beans, eggs, fish, meat, milk.

Fibre

Gut, blood sugar. Whole grains, beans, fruit, vegetables.

Vitamin D

Bones, mood. Sun and fatty fish.

Estimate
Iodine

Thyroid. Iodised salt, sea fish.

Estimate
Omega-3

Heart, brain. Mukene, tilapia, Nile perch.

Estimate
The monthly report

Not a lecture. A shopping list.

On the first of the month you get what looked low, what looked fine, and the foods at your market that close each gap — ranked by how much they give you per serving. Share it with whoever cooks.

Your food is your business

Four promises, written down.

1

Photos deleted after scoring

Your meal photo exists only as long as it takes to name the dishes. Keeping it is a switch you turn on, not one you have to find and turn off.

2

Guidance, not diagnosis

Wholeful shows what your diet looks low on. It does not diagnose, treat or replace a clinician — and it tells you so wherever that matters.

3

Export or delete everything

One tap in Settings. Your account, meals and reports go with it — no email to support, no waiting period.

4

We say where it's processed

Dishes are recognised by an AI service outside Uganda and Kenya. We disclose that up front and ask before we send anything. Read the privacy summary.

Questions

Fair questions, straight answers.

Is it free?

Yes. Logging meals and the monthly report are free. A Plus tier with weekly check-ins and more detail will come later; the free tier stays useful on its own.

Do I need the app, or does WhatsApp work?

Either. Send photos to Wholeful on WhatsApp and get your report there, or use the app for the day-by-day view. Same account, same data.

How does it know the portion?

It guesses small, medium or large against a typical home serving and you confirm or adjust in one tap. If you ever weigh a plate, you can enter grams — but you never have to.

Which dishes does it know?

At launch, about fifty everyday Kampala dishes and the foods behind them, growing every week from what people actually log. Nairobi's dictionary follows. If it misses one, you add it in a tap and it learns.

How accurate is the report?

It's honest about its limits: the report is only produced when about 70% of your expected meals were logged, three nutrients are flagged as estimates, and you can see every dish behind every number.

Can I share the report with my partner or a nutritionist?

Yes — each report has a private link that works for 90 days without an account.
